CENOTE EL BUHO

Destination weddings in Mexico are not limited to the ceremonies on  beautiful beaches. Just steps away from the beach is the Riviera Maya’s best kept secret: the endless cenotes, or sink holes, the sacred Mayan water wells.

Cenotes are natural swimming holes formed by the collapse of porous limestone bedrock, which has revealed a secret subterranean world of groundwater pools. Most cenotes have fresh water that has been meticulously filtered by the earth, making them so clear and pure that you can see straight through to small fish swimming.

The Mayans considered cenotes because they were a water source in dry times. Mayans settled villages around these spiritual wells and believed that they were a portal to speak with the gods. Today you can still see why cenotes held the Mayans in awe. Looking at or swimming in  the clear and cool waters feels like stepping into prehistory, where giant tropical trees and vines form wild stone walls leading up to rays of sunlight.

This magical venue served as the perfect backdrop to this intimate and heartfelt Mayan ceremony between Megan and Lauren. Close family and friends took active role during the ceremony by assisting the Shaman in blessing the couple at the start of their new journey together.

Both Megan and Lauren were stunning: Megan with flower wreath in her hair and an elegant lace gown and Lauren in navy blue suit and stylish shoes which were a perfect match for the vintage inspired décor and venue.

We could feel the genuine love between these two and it was an honor to help them organize such an important event of their lifetime.
